March: A few more tidbits

After I posted last night, I realized that I'd forgotten a few things that happened in the weeks leading up to Clay's birthday.  (It bears mentioning that I had much time for reflection between the hours of my last post and about 1:30 this morning and again from 5 - 6:30 this morning since I was up with a baby that just wanted to be held.  I was sure he had another ear infection so we went back to the doctor.  Thankfully he doesn't have an ear infection but I did feel like a rookie mom since the doc said it was nothing some prune juice couldn't cure - read: GAS).  Anyway, since the the tidbits I remembered last night were a combination of fun memories and events that helped set the stage for some Murphy's Law events that occurred on the day of Clay's birthday party, I thought I'd recap them quickly.


First off, a St. Patty's Day celebration!  One of my girlfriends (Becky) from Clay's playgroup had us over for an impromptu St. Patty's celebration!  It was loads of fun, we each brought a side dish and Becky and her hubs, Todd, provided brats!  Jim had to work late that night so he didn't get to enjoy the festivities (he also missed Clay somehow finding the one small piece of dog poo that was hidden in the grass and deciding that was a PERFECT toy! - Seriously, I don't know how babies do it; Clay will randomly find all kinds of things that you'd want him to avoid and get down on loving on them before you realize he's doing it - that's real talent, don't ya think?)

This is how us trying to get a picture started off.  VERY reminiscent of the V-day party just one month earlier.

I can't believe the difference one month makes, after a rocky start, all of the babes sat still long enough for us to shoot some pics - by "us" I mean everyone else.  I made sure I had my camera but had forgotten to load my memory stick back in the camera so my camera couldn't save images.  Lucky for me, my friends are on top of picture taking!

Oh it bears mentioning that we had to leave this party early because I, in all of my infinite wisdom, turned Clay's clock the WRONG WAY for daylight savings time.  Yeah, I started adjusting his sleep a week before the time change so that we'd be all ready to go when the change got here.  I should have been putting him to bed earlier in preparation but I put him to bed later which meant when the time change got here, I had him on a schedule that was two hours later than it should have been!  OOPS!  I worked hard the next few weeks to get him back on schedule so that he wouldn't sleep through his birthday party.  :)


Two other funny things that happened in the weeks leading up to Clay's party were that: 1.  We developed a sugar ant problem in our kitchen and 2.  Our dishwasher broke.  File both of those things under "awesomely inconvenient" - especially when you're hosting a party at your house and you have a baby who has loads of gear that need to be washed throughout the day.
