WEEK 32

Hi!

This has been a pretty crazy week and Clay was along for the ride! I’ll go into more detail later but for those of you who would just like the highlights, I’ll sum it up by saying: baby shower, snow storm, power outage, birthday, nursery organization, plumbing issue, and a good doctor’s visit (I’m measuring perfectly at 32 weeks and Clay’s heartbeat is very good!)

I had my first shower last Thursday at work and it was wonderful! Thursday also marked the largest snow fall Dallas has ever had – we probably got just over a foot of snow at our house! Jim was out of town on business so it was a little unnerving to fend for myself but I managed. The snow made it tricky to get the Tahoe up the drive so I had to leave it at the bottom of our hill and walk up on my own (I’ve been practical throughout the pregnancy and have been wearing flats but I have to say, I think getting up the hill would have been a little bit easier if I’d had my signature 3 inch heels to dig into the ground for traction!) We ended up losing power for about 4 hours on Thursday night / Friday morning which was a bit frustrating since my phone was dying and I wasn’t sure what I’d do if I had an emergency But Jim called my dad and asked him to come to my rescue (and of course, he did!). My dad came over and stayed with me until I was comfortable (the power came on right as he got to the house, we talked until about 2 in the morning – when my phone was fully charged) and then I sent him on his way.

The next day (or rather later that day) was my birthday and it was great – Jim got back in town safely and we celebrated my last pre-baby birthday in a very low-key way at the house. Saturday, Jim put together the rest of Clay’s furniture and started getting Clay’s nursery organized (I am really blessed to be married to such a great guy – please note that he did ALL of this without being asked; I thought we’d tackle the projects in a week or so). Sunday we ran errands and watched a couple of movies at our house and just enjoyed each other’s company.

Then Monday I headed to work and Jim (banker that he is) settled in for a nice day off from work. Well again, I am way lucky because my hubby put together a list of things that he was going to do while I was at work – he’d planned to surprise me by running a few errands for me, completely organizing Clay’s room, moving stuff to the attic and tackling a small plumbing project. Well, that all changed when the small plumbing project blew up (thanks to the 50 year old plumbing fixtures we have. Read: finicky and lacking emergency shutoff valves) and instead Jim had to deal with a geyser in our bathroom that flooded parts of Clay’s room and our guest room, warped wood in our bathroom, and forced us to turn off the water to our house which meant no heat…. which meant checking into a traditionally decent hotel where Jim overheard a guest trying to barter a pizza for “MJ” cigarette – WHAT?!? Anyway, Jim handled all of the issues like a total champ our plumbing issue got its permanent fix Tuesday. Whew!

After such a crazy week, I was interested for today’s doctor’s visit. I was a little surprised to hear the doctor say my blood pressure was “perfect” – it’s been great the entire pregnancy but I thought last week’s events may force a different result. So, all’s well that ends well!

That being said, we’re hoping for a less eventful weekend!

Much Love,

Erin
